The Kansas Federal Courts have jurisdiction over the entire state. The Kansas Courts has operation locations in Topeka, Kansas City, and Wichita and was created during the presidency of Abraham Lincoln when the district itself was created in 1861.
All appeals from Kansas go to the Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. However, cases where claims are made against the government and any patent claims are directed to the federal circuit.
The official site for District Court of Kansas has plenty of different resources for attorneys, jurors and anyone else looking to track or file a case. You can also view public records of the court, and request transcripts of criminal cases. If you have signed up for jury duty, this is your one stop site for everything that you need to know. All you have to do is input your participant number.
The court also puts up employment opportunities on the site. You will most likely catch this under the ‘Most Popular’ section that they keep updating on things that are most commonly sought from the courthouse but can be accomplished online.
There is a calendar as well in case you want to check the date for a certain proceeding, and any upcoming ceremonies and events that the court administration plans. There are resources for attorneys as well, specifically in the criminal litigation area, and other learning resources for those who are about to sit for the bar. If you want to self represent yourself in a case, there is a whole page for this, including a tab where you can find a lawyer for yourself if you change your mind.
Before you make your way to a court location near you, make sure that you look up the forms that you need to download and fill from the site, and save yourself the bothersome ordeal of waiting in long queues.
